About Tarian Regional Cyber Crime Unit (RCCU)

Tarian RCCU consists of a team of multi-disciplinary police officers and staff seconded from three of the Welsh forces; South Wales, Gwent, and Dyfed-Powys.

The unit is tasked with investigating online criminality, engaging with businesses and organisations across the region, and working with schools and educational bodies to keep young people from breaking the Computer Misuse Act 1990.

Tarian’s services are fully funded and provided at no cost to the end user. Our services range from presentations and talks for staff and students, through to immersive exercises for senior leadership teams. We distribute official guidance from our national partners and can signpost to further, police-approved services when needed.

Our Mission

Working closely with partners such as the Welsh Government, the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), and the Cyber Resilience Centre for Wales (WCRC), our mission is to contribute towards the provision of a safer and more cyber secure environment for Southern Wales.

We use the CONTEST strategy to achieve this:

Changing behaviours within our communities via relevant and practical advice that enables individuals and organisations to better protect themselves against the threat of cyber-crime.

Increasing the cyber resilience of our communities via testing and exercising.

Diverting children and young adults away from committing cyber offences by signposting to projects and initiatives that enable them to harness their skills and talents positively.

Identifying, pursuing and apprehending criminals committing cyber offences against our communities.
